I might need to start a collection of old Philly origin postcards.
“How would you like to live in a house like this? I am not boarding there just now. I am O.K. hope you are the same. from your friend Mrs E. Phillips.” to Mrs George Peck
Card is postmarked Aug. 28th 1906 and features old Hotel Walton which stood on the NE corner of Broad in Spruce Sts.
Other cards I picked up today:
- An illustrated postcard of the old Sears, Roebuck & Co. building that stood at Adams Ave. & Roosevelt Blvd. (assuming circa 1920s because that’s when it was built. Demolished 1994)
- Photograph postcard of the Schuylkill Expwy at Vine St. (1976)
- Photograph postcard of the Benjamin Franklin Pkwy from the Art Museum (postmarked 1941). Gave the card to my girlfriend, Allie but it’s a nice handwritten one from someone in Philly to someone in Minnesota. I love how it found its way back in my hands in Philadelphia 60yrs later. This one is by a photographer whose name I’m returning to find out… as I’d like to start collecting.
